BOOKLICE / PLASTER BEETLE CONTROL F.A.Q'S

Q: BEST CONTROL METHOD?

All treatments have their benefits. Surface and Aerosol sprays have a long residual effect and continue to work long after they're applied. Heat treatments can provide a quick knockdown of all activity in the premises. All methods have pros and cons so a tailored approach is always best.

Q: FIRST SIGNS OF ACTIVITY?

Unfortunately the first signs of an infestation is seeing the insects in and around walls and ceilings. Sightings will also be a regular occurence as these beetles breed in darker areas and are attracted to lighting such as bulbs.

Q: COST TO GET PEST CONTROL?

Costs vary with the main factors being whether a fumigation, misting, fogging, spraying or heat treatment is best to provide long term results.

Q: HOW LONG DO THEY LIVE?

The larvae will live and feed for a period of around 10 days. Following this, the larvae then turns to pupa and an adult beetle will emerge approximately 2 weeks later. Adults, however, will normally only live for a period of 6 months.

Q: HOW QUICKLY DO THEY BREED?

A female carpet beetle normally lays approximately 50 to 200 eggs across it's lifetime. The larvae will live and feed for a long time if conditions are favurable. Following this, the larvae then turns to pupa and an adult beetle will emerge approximately 2 weeks later.

Q: HOW TO PREVENT THEM?

The absolute best prevention method against beetles are to make the environment uncomfortable for them with the use of insecticides of varying types. Another good method is to regularly vacuum carpeted floors and regularly check darker and less used areas of properties.
